To bra or not to bra? Happy No Bra Day!
To bra or not to bra? Happy No Bra Day!
Are you in or not? Why or why not? How do you feel about wearing a bra?
I’m sitting here on my computer bra-less at home as my sister-in-law announces its No Bra Day. So I look it up and discover that No Bra Day was created to raise awareness around Breast Cancer and that it is also raising controversy about whether it is too salacious or whether its focus instead is to free women from the restriction and discomfort of wearing a bra.
I love going bra-less at home it feels natural, comfortable and free. But when I go out dancing, going without a bra would feel constraining and uncomfortable. I dance with my whole being and like to shake, shimmy, jump and let the music dance through my body and that would feel uncomfortable and even painful without a bra. Pleasure for me starts with how I feel on the inside. This includes the pleasure of feeling alive, healthy, safe, and loved.
When I learned how to listen to my body and prioritize my body’s care, I started making better choices and stopped living and taking care of others at my expense. A few years ago I felt something funny in my breast. I went in to Planned Parenthood for a check up and they confirmed I had a lump and sent me me to Ralph Lauren Breast Center. I slowed down, listened to my body and made time every day for self care and energy healing for my breasts. I paid attention to what I was feeling in my body and tended to it and when I went back in the lump was gone. What remains today is more self care. May this month and No Bra Day remind you to listen to your body, trust it and tend to it.
Whether you choose to wear a bra or not, lets join together to raise awareness and promote prevention and healing around Breast Cancer today. If it doesn’t feel right to forego your bra then wear your most beautiful bra with pride.
Love your breasts today….and men in solidarity please like and share this post, celebrate women if they post about this on the net talk about it or you see them celebrating without a bra today and do it with respect remembering that we are your sisters, mothers, daughters, partners and yes your lovers.
Also remember that men can get breast cancer too though their chances are much lower 1 in 1000 and for women 1 in 8 chance according to the National Cancer Institute of developing invasive breast cancer in their lifetime. Nearly 40,000 women lose their lives to the disease each year.
There is a “No Bra” French study that suggests that it might be healthier for women to forego their bras. Professor Jean-Denis Rouillon, a sports science expert at the University of Bsancon, France reported after a 15 year study of 320 women age 18-35,
“Medically, physiologically, anatomically, the breast does not benefit from being deprived of gravity. On the contrary, they get saggier with a bra.”
